WHAT’S IT ABOUT
Imagine Sherlock Holmes in modern day London being awesome and kicking ass with Dr. Watson by his side. And then add some more awesome.
CAST OF CHARACTERS
Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch): Sherlock is a highly-functional sociopath. Even though he is highly intelligent, he has almost no social skills and often insults others. He is the only consulting detective in the world, helping out Scotland Yard when they have a particularly tricky case.
Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman): Sherlock’s roommate and best friend, Watson can be said to be the ‘human’ part of the duo. They quarrel often, but Watson always forgives Sherlock as well as tries to keep him grounded. Their relationship is a little unhealthy, but they work really well together.
DI Greg Lestrade (Rupert Graves): Sherlock’s friend inside of Scotland Yard, Lestrade is a buffer between Sherlock and the rest of the policemen who all tend to dislike him. Lestrade also finds Sherlock an annoyance, but he has a high regard for him and even holds hope that Sherlock can one day be a good man.
James Moriarty (Andrew Scott): Sherlock’s arch nemesis, Moriarty is the one villain the fan’s truly love. Moriarty constantly outsmarts Sherlock and proves to be truly insane and like the Joker, “there are some men who just like to see the world burn.”
Mrs. Hudson (Una Stubbs): Sherlock and Watson’s landlady, Sherlock often treats her as a maid. Mrs. Hudson’s past is one of intrigue and she shows herself to be capable of handling Sherlock as well as all the trouble that comes her way.
Mycroft Holmes (Mark Gatiss): Sherlock’s older brother, Mycroft works for the British government. He does his best to keep his little brother out of jail and turns to him for help with highly sensitive cases. Mycroft may actually be smarter than Sherlock, but he better understands how to give the impression of conforming to social convention.
Molly Hooper (Louise Brealey): A pathologist, Molly has a crush on Sherlock which he exploits in order to have access to the lab and her files. Sherlock does have a deep regard for Molly, but it doesn’t go much past that.
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH
Originally, Sherlock was going to be a mini-series with only three episodes, but after the massive following it garnered there are now two more seasons and a Christmas special in the future. The fandom is huge and quite fun to be a part of. While they may be a little obsessive at times, the show does give them reason to be. It’s more than a retelling of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s works; the creators have reimagined Holmes for this generation. It’s a show that casts a wide net and while it may seem crazy that there’s more than a year between seasons, it’s totally worth the wait.
