“I can’t believe I’m here. I cant believe I’m in front of you,” he told Matt Lauer with tears in his eyes. “I can’t believe I’m just here, and just seeing the tragedy that happened. It touches me.”

Tracy Morgan interviewed exclusively with The TODAY Show June 1., making that the first interview since his crash on June 7, 2014. The crash nearly caused Morgan to lose his life and killed his friend, mentor and former comedian James Mcnair who Morgan paid homage too throughout the interview.

The interview took place exactly one week after settling a lawsuit against Walmart over the crash that left Morgan with disabling injuries.

“The case is settled, but the pain is always going to be there for Jimmy Mac,” Morgan stated. “Bones heal but the loss of my friend will never heal.”

Morgan and a few friends were traveling down the New Jersey Turnpike in their limousine when the vehicle was rear ended by a Walmart truck.

The 30 RockĀ star suffered a broken leg, a few broken ribs, and severe brain trauma. Two other passengers in the limo were also severely injured. The recovering actor says that he does not remember the accident.

The comedian continually thanked the medical staff that worked with him and helped him through his recovery. He was also extremely grateful to have had the support of his family and friends. Tina Fey even called to check on him from time to time.

“There are times where I have my good days and my bad days, where I forget things,” he exclaimed. “There are times where I get the headaches, and the nose bleeds. I won’t even let my lady know because I don’t want her to be worried about it.”

Nonetheless, he can walk almost a year since the tragic accident, and promises to return back to comedy very soon.

“I love comedy. I’ll never stop loving her. I love comedy and I can’t wait to get back to her, but right now my goal is just to heal and get better because I’m not 100% yet, I’m not,” he told Lauer. “And when I’m there, you’ll know it. I’ll get back to making you laugh. I promise you.”
