Want to grab tickets to the hottest musical on Broadway? Hamilton just took home 11 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Actor in a Musical and you know this show is one you can’t miss. Hamilton, a hip-hop musical portraying the life of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, has been sold out ever since it debuted Off Broadway in February 2015. Hamilton moved to Broadway in August 2015 and received fantastic reviews resulting in advanced box office sales for shows a year in advance. If you’re only in town for a few days or have been dying to see the show, don’t fret! There are several ways to buy tickets for this sold out sensation.
Digital Lottery
The daily Hamilton Official Digital Lottery is by far the least expensive way to see the show, but it will take a bit of luck. The lottery releases 21 front row tickets for each show for only $10 each. To enter, go to Hamilton Official Lottery which will give you details and instructions on how to enter to win. Anybody can enter as long as they have a valid ID and enter between 9 am to 4 pm for days with only an evening performance, 9 to 11 am for weekend matinee, or 12 to 4 pm for evening performances following matinee shows. The winners will be contacted via email and they have 60 minutes to pay for their tickets online. Thousands of people enter making chances extremely difficult to win, but keep trying every day and who knows, you may be one of the lucky ones!
Live Lottery
Live lottery for Hamilton ONLY occurs for the Wednesday matinee performances. To enter, head to the Richard Rogers Theater on 46th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenue to enter your name at 12 pm. Winners are drawn at 12:30 pm for the 2 pm performance. Winners must be present and have a valid ID to win. The live lottery, similar to the digital lottery, releases 21 front row tickets for $10 dollars each. Make sure to bring cash, as the live lottery is cash only!
Resale Tickets
There are a bunch of resale options available, both official and unofficial. To buy official resale tickets through Ticketmaster, go to the Hamilton (NY) Tickets page and browse what is available.. Here, you can view verified resale tickets and their prices for specific dates and times.
To buy unofficial resale tickets, you can check sites such as StubHub.com or TickPick.com. Sometimes, if you wait until a few minutes to an hour before showtimes, ticket prices on StubHub may drop since sellers would rather make a small profit than not sell the ticket at all.
Try the Box Office
On the day of a performance, there’s no harm in checking the box office for tickets. Chances of the box office selling face value tickets due to cancellations or returns are slim but you never know, maybe today is your lucky day! Standing room tickets could also be available for $40, but once again there’s no guarantee standing room tickets will be available that day.
Hamilton is a must-see show so try one of these four ways to get tickets because you never know when luck is in your favor!
