Samuel Claiborne’s “Say Goodbye to America” is an American anthem about how horrible America and its politics are. Essentially it’s an American anti-anthem, then. A published former-Brooklyn poet, Claiborne’s inspiration typically comes from periods of meditation centered around nature, the cosmos, politics, and more. His dismal perspective may stem a bit from the fact that he was a former quadriplegic and much of his influence came during his recovery period. The reality of his music resonates maybe a bit too roughly at times, but he hits some important points that need a second look and we can appreciate it for that.
