Mad Max: Fury Road performed decently at the box office this weekend, coming in second place (after Pitch Perfect 2). The film earned about $44.4 million, making it the most successful opening for the directer, George Miller (who has directed all other films in the Mad Max franchise). The fourth movie in the franchise and the only not to star Mel Gibson, Mad Max: Fury Road received significant backlash from “men’s rights” activists. However, most found this as more of a reason to go and see the movie. Mad Max: Fury Road has massive appeal, towards women and men, fans of the Mad Max franchise, action-lovers and post-apocalyptic junkies. Avengers: Age of Ultron, Hot Pursuit and Furious came in third, fourth and fifth, respectively, this box office weekend. Mad Max: Fury Road is currently in theaters.
