Her character Sophia, in Orange is the New Black, helped highlight how hard it can be for transpeople, especially in jail. Laverne Cox covers the latest edition of Entertainment Weekly with a Statue of Liberty crown and torch thus showing how far America has come in terms of accepting individuals who have had gender reassignment surgery.
Posing as the nations symbol of freedom, the trans-woman graces the LGBT issue of the magazine and looks simply amazing in mint green. This edition of Entertainment Weekly is the first Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender edition in 15 years! This cover is titled America’s Transformation with the word ‘Weekly’ in rainbow colors.
Laverne Cox on Caitlyn Jenner
Laverne has been very supportive of Caitlyn Jenner’s transition as she recently showcased her experience in Vanity Fair. Cox revealed in Entertainment Weekly that she thinks Caitlyn’s decision to undergo her change in the public’s line of sight is a huge step for the LGBT community. “I believe Caitlyn will transcend this moment,” she stated.
“I am so moved by all the love and support Caitlyn is receiving. It feels like a new day, indeed, when a trans person can present her authentic self to the world for the first time and be celebrated for it so universally,” she wrote on her Tumblr.
Orange is the New Black is set to release on Netflix Friday, June 12!
