Hillary Clinton Chooses Brooklyn Heights as Her Campaign Headquarters

Hillary Clinton’s announcement on Sunday that she would be running for President under the Democratic Party for the 2016 elections came as little surprise to anyone. What did come as a surprise, however, is that she’s chosen Brooklyn Heights as her campaign headquarters.

In a few ways, this is a very obvious choice. Brooklyn is full of young, motivated liberals who are ready and willing to get involved in a cause that they believe in. As soon as Clinton made her announcement, my roommate was already sporting a Hillary 2016 coffee mug, fully prepared to head over to Brooklyn Heights and find a way to get involved as soon as possible. It’s also a nice nod toward Bill de Blasio who was Clinton’s 2000 Senate campaign manager. Brooklyn Heights is also accessible by multiple train lines and is just a stone’s throw from Manhattan.

The negatives are also obvious, but seem like they fall short of anything worth actually complaining about. Some residents are worried that this will just drive up the traffic and congestion of the area. Unfortunately, we live in a very crowded city where overcrowding is always an issue—I can hardly see these additional people adding to the problem in a significant way. Protestors have already amassed outside of the new headquarters sporting signs and shirts against Clinton’s nomination. A lot of people feel that she’s launching her candidacy in secret and want it known that they are not happy with this political move.

Wherever you fall on the political spectrum, this is a pretty exciting moment for politics in general. The potential of a female President looms in the future, a fact that can change the course of politics in a big way. A quick Google search will show you a bunch of articles that prove sexism is alive and well, but as far as I’m concerned, Hillary 2016 is the only way I want to cast my vote in the upcoming election.
