Gerard Arthur Way (born April 9, 1977) is a comic book writer and an American musician who was the co-founder and lead vocalist of the group My Chemical Romance until its break-up in 2013. He could be the executive producer of the group the second record of LostAlone I’m a UFO in This City. Way also wrote the comic mini series The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, and wrote the Eisner Award -winning comic book The Umbrella Academy. Way initially desired to be a guitarist. Way was working as an intern for Cartoon Network in New York City through the September 11, 2001 attacks. Seeing the consequences of the strikes first-hand prompted his perspectives to modify on life in the next weeks. Myself’ve gotta get from the cellar. I’ve gotta begin to see the planet. I have gotta make a difference.'” To help deal with the emotional effects the assaults had on him, Way composed the lyrics to the song “Skylines and Turnstiles”, which includes since been identified as the first song by My Chemical Romance. Shortly after, My Chemical Romance began to assemble as a band. In many interviews, Way has stated that his art work and music turned out to be a successful outlet to deal with his longtime struggles against alcoholism, depression and prescription drug abuse. Using music as a means to solve private battles has caused Way to generate intensely personal tunes such as “Helena,” which was composed in memory of his late grandmother. In March 2013, My Chemical Romance announced their break up. 2008-present: Solo: In 2008, Way and musical project JulienK remixed a form of the tune “Sleep When I’m Dead” by The Cure for their EP Hypnagogic States. In Way, early 2009 and Japanese singer Kyosuke Himuro co-produced the brand new theme song for Advent Kids Whole, the Blu ray director’s cut of the film sequel to the popular gaming franchise, Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. The song, titled “Safe and Sound”, premiered on iTunes on April 29, 2009. “Safe and Sound” is only heard on the Japanese release of the film; the English release uses Himuro’s “Calling” (the original closing theme for Advent Children) in place of it. Safe also contributed vocals for the vocal mix of the deadmau5 tune “Professional Griefers”. A longtime supporter is the executive producer of the second studio album I’m a UFO in This City (2012). Gerard Way contributed guest vocals to “Falling in Love Will Kill You” from Wrongchilde’s debut solo album Gold Blooded, a pseudonym undertaking from Kill Hannah frontman Mat Devine. In May 2014, Way launched his Tumblr based site where he announced he had signed to Warner Bros. Records as a solo artist and was nearing conclusion of his first solo album. Further to this Gerard announced his first solo single, “Action Cat”, released later in June and his first solo shows at Reading and Leeds Festivals 2014. He later declared another solo performance that will happen at Portsmouth’s Wedgewood Rooms. On August 19 Way streamed a new music video for the tune “No Shows”., released as second single off the brand new record on August 19. The record, titled Hesitant Alien, premiered on September 30, 2014. When Way was asked why he chose to execute the Britpop music genre into his music he stated that he appreciated the music and its scene’s energy and style, and was urged to resurrect the genre in the United States. Other endeavors: 1993-present: Writing: Gerard Way’s first effort at writing a comic was at the age of 16 in 1993, composing a comic book series called On Raven’s Wings, published by Hart D. Fisher’s Bonyard Press, which was cancelled after Issue 2 due to losing the art team; he was credited as Garry Manner. In 2007, Way started composing the comic book miniseries The Umbrella Academy. Way illustrated the initial version and wrote the story, but cartoonist Gabriel Ba tweaked background drawings Apocalypse Suite. Apocalypse Suite was released by Dark Horse Comics in their own Free Comic Book Day issue on May 5, 2007. The first official issue was released on September 19, 2007. The following episode of the series, Dallas, premiered on November 26, 2008, and a third installment entitled Hotel Oblivion is in the works. Fellow and way artists Becky Cloonan and Shaun Simon are now in the process of making and developing a new comic-book series entitled The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys, which Way announced at 2009 San Diego Comic-Con. At the 2012 New York Comic Con, the team declared that the initial look at the series would be published on 2013’s Free Comic Book Day. In 2011, My Chemical Romance said that Gerard and Mikey were working on another comic book job which they’d kept under wraps since mid -2009. On December 21, 2013, Gerard Way stated that he and Gabriel Ba will soon be working on parts three and four of his comic book series Umbrella Academy starting in the new year. In detail, Gerard discussed Chris Thompson from Pop Culture Hound’s new Umbrella Academy show in a podcast interview on December 31, 2013 with he and affirmed he would do two volumes back-to-back, with a handful of flashback issues in between. In addition, he discussed his new comic book series All Ages which first appeared on his Twitter web feed as a number of images. He is actively working on the narrative of cats in high school who are finding a publisher or an artist’s place on earth, although the endeavor does not have they at this stage. It had been announced by composing for the alternative universe Spider-Man series Edge of SpiderVerse that Gerard Way will make his debut in the Marvel Universe. 2001-current: television: In 2001 Way co -created The Breakfast Monkey was called by an animation with Joe Boyle. The network declined to pick up the theory, although they pitched it to Cartoon Network on the grounds that it had been too like the existing property Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Made his television directorial debut on The Hub initial series The Aquabats! Super Show!, co-directing and co-writing the season two finale “The AntiBats!” with show co-creators Christian Jacobs and Jason deVilliers. Furthermore, Way’s brother Mikey appears in the episode, playing with a fictional death metal group called Asthma’s lead singer. The next year, the episode was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the classification for “Outstanding Writing in a Children’s Series”. He has Italian lineage on his mother’s side and Scottish ancestry on the side of his dad. Gerard was raised in Belleville, New Jersey and first started singing publicly in the fourth grade, when he played the role of Peter Pan in a school musical production. Gerard’s grandmother, Elena Lee Rush, was a great creative influence who instructed him to sing, paint, and perform from a youthful age; he’s said that “she has taught me everything I know”. Additionally, while in elementary school, the glam metal band Bon Jovi was instrumental in forming his love. At age 15, Way was held at gunpoint, as he said in an April 2008 Rolling Stone interview: “I got held up with a .357 Magnum, had a gun pointed to my head and put on the ground, performance-style.” He went to state that “no matter how really ugly the world gets or how stupid it reveals me it is, I consistently have faith inside.” On episode which discussed the controversy enclosing the publicizing of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer’s offenses in comic books, Way appeared at age 16. Belleville High School was attended by way until he graduated in 1995. Determining to continue a vocation in the comic book industry, he attended the School of Visual Arts in nyc, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1999. Way struggled with prescription drug and alcoholism dependence for many years but is now sober. In a November 2010 dilemma he explained that having become a happier man and feeling he had been able to benefit from the occasional amateur drink. Yet, several years later he quit completely again and now abstains from alcoholic beverages entirely. On September 3, 2007, following a concert in Colorado, Way married Lyn-Z of Mindless Self Indulgence backstage on the last date of the Projekt Revolution tour. The low key ceremony was performed by a part of Live Country’s touring staff which was also an ordained minister. Their daughter, Bandit Lee Way, was born in California. He currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
