DESCRIPTION:Join the Intrepid Museum for its seventh annual Summer Movie Series. Enjoy FREE feature films on the flight deck\, under the stars! \nIntroduced by Dr. Steve B. Howell\, a project scientist at NASA Ames Research Center. \nDr. Steve B. Howell is the project scientist for NASA’s Kepler and K2 missions\, developed to search for habitable planets. The goal of the Kepler Space Telescope\, launched in 2009\, is to discover exoplanets—planets orbiting other stars. Kepler has discovered over 4\,500 exoplanet candidates\, nearly 2\,000 confirmed exoplanets and several hundred exoplanets that are similar to Earth in size. The K2 mission will continue the search for exoplanets around the closest\, brightest stars and provide the best scientific data sets ever obtained for many of the well-known stars and star clusters along the zodiac. Howell received his PhD in astrophysics from the University of Amsterdam and has worked in many aspects of astronomy\, including instrument-building for ground and space-based telescopes\, university education and public outreach. \n\nBring your lawn chairs\, picnic baskets and blankets. Guests are encouraged to bring their own food\, snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. \nREMINDER: Doors open at 7:30pm\, and the program begins at sunset\, weather permitting. Space is limited. Admission tickets (free of charge) will be distributed on a first-come\, first-served basis before the screening. One ticket per person. You must be in line to receive a ticket. All new arrivals must join the back of the line. Tickets will be distributed starting at 6:15pm\, and ticket holders will be queued within the Museum complex. Be sure all members of your party are in line by 6:15pm.

DESCRIPTION:In this lavish adaptation of the classic novel\, a Midwestern war veteran finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his millionaire neighbor. \nPack a picnic\, bring a friend and settle in for a night of premier movies on the Pier. \nThe film will begin when it is dark enough to see the image on the screen which is dependent on the sunset\, generally around 8:30pm.  Seating will open at 6:30\, and is first come first serve and people can reserve chairs for their friends once onsite. We put out chairs (about 250 of them) and they normally fill by 7:30 and ground seating is available in front and behind the chair section.  Front ground seating is for blankets/butts on ground (the pier is hard made of pavers) & picnics are welcome if trash is disposed of properly.  Dogs are welcome on leash and off chairs. People may bring their own chairs and place them behind our chairs on the dark pavers\, if they choose to bring them. There is no seating or standing in the Southern aisle of the pier.
