Best of Art Basel

[mashshare]

It’s that wonderful time of year again, when Quebec license plates plague the streets of South Florida and temperatures dip down to the low 80’s. Of course season also brings with it a slew of events including Art Basel, the world-renowned art festival with iterations in several countries. The Miami edition was launched back in 2002 and enjoyed plenty of acclaim and growth, hosting more than 250 galleries from artists from 30+ countries and attracting 75,000+ the year before last.

Any type of art you can think of can be experienced this weekend, including music. What’s an art festival in Miami without concerts and parties? Here’s the scoop on some of the best going down this weekend:

  1. iii points concert series
Back in October this festival group brought local and national talent to the Wynwood district and now they’re doing it again for Basel. Thursday, veteran DJ Richie Hawtin takes the decks for Heaven and Hell. Friday Jamie xx and Four Tet are set to takeover. Saturday saves the best for last and the series closes out with STWO, Kaytranada and A$AP Rocky. For tickets and more visit their website
  2. Corona Electric Beach
Look no further than Corona’s Electric Beach for your Saturday pregame needs. Their last party was held at Fifty Miami and brought Brazzabelle and Paper Diamond to the rooftop pool lounge of The Viceroy. This time the Cleavelander is hosting Craze, Astronomar, Ape Drums and TJ Mizell. If this is anything like the last one, the Corona and swag will be plentiful. RSVP for free here.
  3. Bacardi House Party
Intimate sessions with Alicia Keys and Guru on Thursday, Pusha-T and A-Trak on Friday and Swizz Beatz & DMX with a Wiz Khalifa DJ set on Saturday? Tough decisions will have to be made. More info and to RSVP.
  4. Wrestlers
No, not those wrestlers. Indie dance duo Wrestlers are playing seven, count ’em seven shows. Their deep lounge vibe will be right at home here in Miami and with ample viewing opportunities, you have no reason to not catch at least one set. Listen and check out their schedule.

The already culture rich Magic City hits the jackpot this weekend and if you’re the type who sits at home and says there’s nothing to do, that just means you’re not looking hard enough. Here’s a handful of awesome events, see you on the streets.
