Offering up a mental and propulsive mixture of summery indie pop and meticulously crafted, commercial modern rock, Brooklyn-based American Authors fall someplace in involving the heady introspection of Alt J, the stadium-sized folk rock of Mumford & Sons, as well as the urban, heartfelt magnificence of Fun. Formed in Boston by Zac Barnett (vocals), James Adam Shelley (guitar/banjo), Dave Rublin (bass guitar), and Matt Sanchez (drums) while the four were attending the Berklee College of Music, the quartet eventually dropped out and relocated to Brooklyn, New York. American Authors inked a deal with Island Records in 2012 and released the singles “Believer” and “Best Day of My Life,” along with their eponymous debut EP, the subsequent year. Oh, What a Life, the group’s first long-player, followed in early 2014. They were originally known as the Blue Pages.
The up and coming indie rock band, American Authors, have recently become an instant hit. American Authors was originally created at Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, eight years ago. In Boston, the band went by The Blue Pages, released a few EPs under that name, and opened for Cash Cash in 2010. In 2012, they relocated to Brooklyn and changed their name to American Authors.
If you’ve heard the songs Believer, Best Day of My Life, and Go Big or Go Home, then you’ve heard the amazing talent this band has. American Authors released Believer as their debut single under Mercury Records which caught the attention of alternative rock radio stations in 2013. Best Day of My Life was released as their second single from their first album, Oh, What a Life. and was heard virtually everywhere. Many companies decided to use this song in commercials and trailers. Best Day of My Life was featured in Lowe’s commercials, Hyundai commercials, video games, ESPN, and in trailers such as Earth to Echo, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Humpback Whales, and St. Vincent. Go Big or Go Home became a Top 20 hit from their upcoming sophomore album What We Live For. American Authors is no stranger to the stage either. They performed back in Boston as The Blue Pages, and have recently toured with OneRepublic, The Script, EchoSmith, and performed at various music festivals such as Leeds and Firefly. They’ve toured in North America, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa.
