Closing Party: Prodigy of Mobb Deep, Deep Trouble NYC HD @ Levi’s Commuter Workspace

Walking up to the Levi’s Commuter Workspace felt like I was just going to a normal bike shop to fix my bike which would be pretty rad if I rode my bike there. Lined up in the front of the commuter space were stations where you can get a tune up for free, so bringing your bike would have been a great deal for you if you had an RSVP to this event.  There seemed to be a theme here with “you should have brought things”, basically saying I wish I knew I could have brought my bike and clothing to fix because as you walk in matrons were hemming and fixing clothing for free along with the free bike tuneup. As you walked in you noticed immediately that it is going to be a small venue, lines filled up the majority of the space with two main sections: the drinks and the food. I of course immediately walked over to the line with the drinks to see what they were serving.

Finally after waiting in the line (which seemed to go by pretty fast) I noticed there were two different types of drinks being provided by Baby’s All Right & Grady’s Cold Brew. Two types of beers, the Bengali and the Crisp, both being very good beers made by Sixpoint and a Sailor Tea which I have never had before until this event. The Sailor Tea consisted of Sailor Jerry Rum, Iced Oolong Tea and lemon juice which was surprisingly tasty and happened to be my drink of choice for most of the night. After the line for the drinks I obviously wandered over to the food table to see what they had. There seemed to be two main entrees, chips & guacamole and pulled pork sliders. I unfortunately could not consume any of the food as I’m trying to look out for my slender figure (kidding) which bummed me out but thankfully my friend Ben (one of the friends who joined me) definitely weighed in on his opinion immediately after consuming his first box plate of chips and guacamole. After taking his first bite he said ” the chips were a little greasy and the guac is pretty good but it’s not mashed enough” still nodding as if pondering the existence of all things chips. He finished the chips and went in for his second plate but this time for the small slider of pulled pork which he immediately gave it a 10/10 would eat again face. At this point we began to wander around and noticed a lot of the new Commuter series by Levi’s which consisted of shirts, pants and bike accessories designed around biking. I noticed a bandana that was at a cubby section of the stands and immediately nabbed some for myself and friends in preparation of the rest of the nights festivities.

Most of the night consisted of line waiting, drinking, eating and dancing to Deep Trouble and DJ HD, two of the great DJs playing various House music tracks throughout the night. Then the lights dimmed and you knew immediately the main event was going to happen and at the almost three hour open bar most of the line waiting stopped and everyone gathered closer to the back with phones at ready position. Prodigy and his crew entered to hype everyone up even more than we already were and I positioned myself in the front of the group so I could experience most of the intimate concert first hand. Prodigy continued to play the crowd song after song until he ended on his international hit “Shook Ones”.

Overall it was a very pleasant experience. They packed a small space with exactly what was needed and entertained you throughout the night. The musical guests were definitely worth checking out again for their concerts (if they do have one in New York City) and the provided food and drinks for 3 hours definitely held me up for the remaining night of festivities on a Saturday night! I’d definitely give it my “10/10 face”.
