Ajay Mathur’s “Walking on the Water” feels like an old-fashioned rock song that you might overhear your dad playing. He’s got the slightly raspy, country croon and even goes off on an upbeat guitar solo. The opening riffs to the track are contagious and danceable, making for a unique track with an even more unique songwriter behind it. Mathur was born in India and is currently based in Switzerland, making this country-esque track almost confusing in how Americana it feels. The rest of his new album, 9 to 3, sees the use of sitar or harp at times and hops around from this raw track to jazzy singles. The entire album is a trip, and “Walking on the Water” is great for satisfying any country cravings you may be having.
