Event Review: Fourth Annual Food Book Fair

[mashshare]

Foodies and book lovers alike rejoiced over the return of the fourth annual Food Book Fair at Williamsburg’s Wythe Hotel this past weekend. The fair was made up of innovative ideas in both food and writing that kicked up stimulating conversations about art, education, activism, science, and so much more. Plus, there was amazing food and drinks to be had as well.

Over the course of three days (April 10th-April 12th), chefs, authors, farmers, bakers, butchers, and many more held panels that highlighted their unique perspectives and experiences. Mornings were full of networking events for up-and-coming entrepreneurs to take advantage of while the rest of the afternoon featured diverse panels, food/drink tastings, and cocktail parties.

Friday saw an exciting start to the weekend with Passion to Profits: Stories of Women who Made Food Their Business and moved onto a tasting from the Bar Tartine cookbook and conversations over grains and food labels. Saturday had author of “1,000 Foods to Eat Before You Die” Mimi Sheraton alongside WNYC Sporkful host Dan Pashman as she discussed her book and held a signing afterward. Other highlights included the fair-within-a-fair Foodieodicals indie food magazine festival as well as the How to Make a Book panel and the Death & Co. Cocktail Party and book signing. The food and book filled weekend closed out with riveting discussions on Chinese Food in America and Cookbooks in History as well as some coffee tasting with Nobletree Coffee.

Overall it was a weekend full of great tastes, smells, and conversation that enticed not only the taste buds of local foodies but their minds as well. If you find yourself interested in more information, a list of the various featured authors and Foodieodicals magazines can be found on their website. It’s a great excuse to try something new in the kitchen or learn a little bit more about the cooking/food industry.
