So, what was it really that made Kanye West walk up on the GRAMMY stage as Beck was accepting his award for Album of the Year?

Kanye spoke to Ryan Seacrest this morning about the whole incident:

“So the voices in my head told me ‘Go up’ and then I just walked up like halfway up the the stage and you know what I really wanted to do is just joke around with what had happened before, but I just really didn’t want to take away from Beck’s moment or the time he’s having to talk. Because you know the GRAMMYs, they play music real quick no matter who you are.”

He then dropped the bomb:

“It was kind of a joke, like the GRAMMYs themselves.”

He later described the GRAMMYs as:

“… a broke clock. They’re right only twice a day.”

When asked what he would say to Beck if he could say anything, Kanye called Beck:

“…one of the nicest guys and one of the most respected musicians in the game.”

Kanye also told Ryan that after his joke moment:

“Taylor Swift came up to me right afterwards. Literally right afterwards! And tells me that I should have went on stage. So this is the irony of my life.”

But that wasn’t all Taylor had to say to him. Supposedly she said she wants to work with him, and he said he’s totally down for it!

“She wants to get in the studio and we’re definitely going to go in. You know, any artist with an amazing point of view, perspective, fan base, I’m down to get in the studio and work. I don’t discriminate, I don’t have an elitism of music because of like how many GRAMMYs or the amount of ratings you get on an album. I think that everyone loves music whether they love hip-hop, alternative, country, and if I could be involved in giving people any type of energy, advice in the studio, whether you’re Beyonce, whether you’re Taylor Swift, whether you’re Jay Z, whether you’re Beck, whoever, and they can be reciprocal with that, I’d like to be involved with that.”

Will Kanye be back at the GRAMMYs next year? His answer:

“I will not go back until I sit with Neil, sit with Jimmy Jam, and fix the voting system to be more in accord with the popular votes.”
