The Season 3 premiere of Orange is the New Black is finally less than 24 hours away! Here are 10 fun facts you may not have known about the Netflix hit show to pass the time:
1. OITNB has a totally free app called Orange is the New App (iTunes | Google Play). Cool right? The app allows you to choose a card, write your own message, add a photo, and then share it with your social media buddies!
2. Before Laverne Cox starred on OITNB, she was on a reality television show called I Want to Work for Diddy.
3. Laverne Cox has a twin brother! Yup, that was him who played the role of the pre-transitioned Sophia.
4. Beth Fowler, who stars as Sister Ingalls, also played the role of a nun in Sister Act 1 & 2.
5. This happens to be the real Alex Vause.
6. Piper Kerman, who Piper Chapman’s character is based on, was not in jail with Alex but did fly to Chicago to testify. That was the only time she saw her ex-lover.
7. Danielle Brooks (Taystee, far left), Lorraine Toussaint (Vee, second from left), and Samira Wiley (Poussey, far right) are all graduates of Juilliard!
8. In the book from which the series is based, Kerman reviews the demographics in prison and notes that there was “one tiny Chinese woman in her sixties.”
9. Jenjii Kohan, creator of Orange is the New Black, wrote an episode for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air back in 1994!
10. Laura Prepon (Alex) originally auditioned for the role of Piper.
